Education is at the core of what we do as a club. We strive to educate our members on various facets of direct marketing particularly through our luncheons and we also endeavor to support and inspire students who are enrolled at various direct marketing educational institutions in the New York metro area — including Baruch, FIT, Mercy College, NYU and Pace University.
Here are specifics on some of our recent activities:
Each luncheon speaker and Silver Apple winner designates the educational institution of their choice to receive an honorarium. For example, $4,500 was designated by the 2007 Silver Apple winners for NYU, Mercy, FIT, Baruch and Pace. And, on behalf of our January 2008 luncheon panelists $2,500 was dispersed to Baruch, NYU, Mercy and Pace.
The Boardroom Prize
DMCNY Platinum Member Boardroom Inc. announced the establishment of a new prize administered by DMCNY. The Boardroom Prize was awarded in June of 2007 to three best performing graduating students enrolled in a direct marketing graduate program at local colleges: NYU, Mercy College and Baruch.
Dr. Marjorie Kalter from NYU accepted the prize on behalf of Jason Hehman. Walter Neff from Mercy accepted the prize on behalf of Paula Rivera. And, Michael Findley accepted the Baruch award on behalf of Emmanuel Gerbier. Each top student received a $750 award. Thanks to the contribution from the management team of Boardroom Inc, the newsletter and book publisher in Stamford, CT, and one of the five Platinum Members of DMCNY. In particular, we'd like to acknowledge Marty Edelston, Boardroom's Founder & President, and Brian Kurtz, Boardroom's Executive Vice President. Marty is a Direct Marketing Hall of Famer and Brian is a DMEF Trustee. They each have a commitment to direct marketing education.
And, in June of 2008, three additional students from the Mercy, NYU and Pace direct marketing programs will be awarded a prize of $500 each as part of Boardroom's continuing commitment to DMCNY.
The DMCNY Memorial Tribute Educational Fund
We recently announced the creation of "The DMCNY Memorial Tribute Educational Fund." The purpose of the fund is to provide a means for the friends and associates of those club members who have passed away to honor their memory. Contributions to the fund will be maintained in a special account which will be used solely for educational activities. This is in keeping with the defined purpose and mission of the DMCNY and will continue the expansion of those activities as the honorees would have wished.
Contributions to the fund should be made out to "The DMCNY Memorial Tribute Educational Fund" and sent to DMCNY, 54 Adams Street, Garden City NY 11530 along with the name of the person being honored.
To launch the fund, DMCNY made an initial contribution of $5,000 in the names of Mike Buoncristiano, Ed Burnett, Ed McLean. Bill Carney, Bob Castle and Al Goodloe. Most recently, the club made a $1,000 donation in memory of Andi Emerson.
Sponsorship of students at luncheons and educational events.
While the club sponsors some of this activity we are also grateful to a grant from DM Gateway and the Direct Marketing Educational Foundation (DMEF).
